Bouncy and light curls can often look appealing but we can’t take the stress of the damage done by curling irons or heat. Heat can damage and pull out the needed moisture from your hair.

Surprisingly, they are several ways to curl hair without heat. Therefore if you are looking for ways to get bouncy curls or beach waves then continue reading ahead. These curls can be achieved overnight and without any use of heat.

1. Braid em’ up

Braiding is a common and easy method to achieve soft curls. Start off with damp hair, I personally love to do this once I am out of the shower but you can even try sprinkling water on dry hair. Separate your hair into two or more sections, if you want more curls, divide your hair into more sections. Braid or plait the sections and leave it for a couple of hours until your hair is dry. You can leave it for overnight as well. The next morning, undo the braids and brush your fingers gently and you’ll have loose, bouncy curls.

The tighter you braid your sections, the firm your curls will be.

2. Headband curls

Another common technique used worldwide. It can be a little difficult if you have thicker or longer hair so this method is recommended for hair which is shorter and lighter in weight.

Damp your hair and set a stretchy headband around your head. Divide your hair into two sections, start with twirling your hair around your ear and then twist it around the headband. Continue doing this until all your hair isn’t fixed around the headband. Leave it overnight and wake up the next morning with rich, wind-blown curls that will stick with you for the day!

3. Twist and bun trick

Dampen your hair and divide it into multiple sections. Two sections are recommended if you have thin hair but if you have thick hair, go for 4-6 sections. Twist your hair around your fingers and bun it up quickly.

Using a bobby pin or a rubber band to hold the bun up to your scalp and continue doing this for the rest of your hair. Ensure that you apply pressure while you are twisting and make sure your buns are tightly secured. Leave it overnight or let it dry for a couple of hours.

Remove the bobby pins or the rubber bands and you will achieve tight, wavy curls.

4. Rollers

For this technique, you will need rollers which can be bought from Amazon, Ulta or Walmart. They usually come in a packet of 6 or half a dozen. Dampen your hair and follow the instructions written on the box. Wrap your hair around the rollers and leave them overnight.

You will not require a bobby pin or a clip for this method because you can easily knot the rollers above your head. The thicker your rollers will be, the looser the curls!

5. Straws

If you are looking for a method to curl your hair without heat or use of bobby pins then this is for you. It is a cheap method to achieve tight bouncy curls that can last for a day. Start off with dampening your hair and twisting it around a straw.

Knot both ends of the straw together and do it the same way for the rest of your hair. Leave it alone for a few hours or overnight, use a shower cap or a towel if you are going sleep in them as they may cause discomfort.

Release the straws next morning and you will have tight, luminous curls.

6. Twist and pin

With this technique, you will achieve spiral soft curls. Grab a small section of your damp hair and gently use your fingers to create circles. Lay it flat on your scalp and pin it as close as possible. To avoid any discomfort, use a piece of fabric around your head if you are going to keep them for the night.

You can blow dry them to quicken the process but make sure they are securely placed otherwise it will be a mess. Remove the bobby pins the next morning and use a mild hair spray.
