5 Winter Moisturisers for Oily Skin Types

Even oily skin types can feel the harsh effects winter can have on our complexions, leaving us feeling dry, flakey and craving moisture. That trusty lightweight moisturiser that saw you through summer is no longer cutting it for you. Which means it’s time to switch it up and bring out the hydrating heroes that will have your back throughout the winter months.

When looking for winter moisturisers for oily or blemish-prone skin, it’s important to check for the right ingredients. It goes without saying that ‘oil-free’ and ‘non-comedogenic’ (less likely to block pores) are your best bet for oily skin all year round, while added blemish-busting ingredients such as niacinamide and salicylic acid are a bonus. In winter, however, look to add in hydrating (yet lightweight) ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Squalane too.

We’ve narrowed it down to our favourite beauty-editor approved winter moisturisers for oily skin (that will also help to keep breakouts at bay).

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, £4.90

Formulated with all of the best winter-proofing ingredients (such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid) this lightweight cream nourishes skin without leaving it feeling greasy. Plus, it doubles as an amazing makeup primer thanks to its ever so slightly tacky texture. It’s so popular in fact, that The Ordinary recently released a 100ml supersize version!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar K[+] Anti-Blemish Moisturiser, £17.00

Specifically formulated for blemish-prone skin, this salicylic acid formula will help to exfoliate and reduce breakouts whilst hydrating. Vitamin E helps to protect against tough city pollution whilst keeping skin feeling supple and plumped all day long. So no more of that uncomfortable, tight winter-skin feeling.

Revolution Skincare Hydration Boost, £8

Don’t underestimate this gel-cream hybrid. It may feel featherlight and absorb instantly, but fast-acting hyaluronic acid provides both instant and all-day moisture. It’s also the perfect formulation for creating a glass-like skin finish. We love mixing this one with our foundation to add a boost of hydration to more matte formulas.

CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion, £12

This lightweight yet nourishing lotion has been a favourite amongst dermatologists for years. It’s a must-have for dry, tight and dehydrated winter skin. Ceramides help to repair the skin’s barrier and prevent water loss whilst niacinamide (vitamin B3) helps to soothe skin and reduce oil production. It even beats some of the more expensive, premium formulas out there that we’ve tested – and at a fraction of the price.

Avène Hydrance Light Emulsion, £14.50

A french-pharmacy favourite, this thermal spring water formula quenches parched, dehydrated skin without blocking pores or feeling too heavy. Added Glycerin helps to bind moisture to the skin’s surface for longer-lasting hydration. Despite all the moisture-boosting ingredients, skin still manages to look and feel comfortably matte. A must-have for truly oily skin that still experiences winter dehydration.
